The fire that destroyed Jo and Mike Anselmi’s home also threatened to affect their business. They needed to be present on the site of the diving school to run the business and they needed a home that was in keeping with the beautiful scenic nature of the cove. Steve Missen, Managing Director of Rural Log Cabins Limited, was able to offer them a solution that ticked all the boxes. Not only could he supply them with a new home at a reasonable price, he could build it within two months and he could make it fit into the idyllic Cornish coast setting. The log cabin had to be set into the side of the cliff at Porthkerris Cove where the couple run their diving business and it needed to blend with the surroundings.
The new log cabin provides a three-bedroomed transportable home. Although it is essentially a temporary structure it has been built to the highest standards and is both comfortable and stylish. The building is 15 metres long and includes a balcony and a full height picture window to give the couple stunning views across the bay.
“We couldn’t believe it when Steve at Rural told us that they could give us a new home in eight weeks,” says Jo Anselmi. “After all the trauma of losing our home in the fire, it was the first bit of good news we had had in a long time. Building in wood gave us the best of both worlds: a cosy feel in a home in keeping with the landscape and every luxury of a newly built home – and we were able to incorporate many carbon-reducing features, too which is important in our environmental lifestyle.”
“There is nothing more satisfying than being able to help someone who has a clearly identifiable problem that we can solve so simply,” says Steve Missen, Managing Director of Rural Log Cabins. “We had a log cabin we had been holding for someone for some time and we were able to adapt it for Jo and Mike and to suit the needs of the Porthkerris environment. Nestling into the cliffs, the log cabin now looks as if it has always belonged there.”
Rural Log Cabins is one of the country’s leading suppliers of bespoke log cabins for a variety of uses, from residential properties and holiday homes to leisure facilities such as visitor centres, sports facilities and schoolrooms, each individually designed to suit the customer’s requirements. The Porthkerris project demonstrates just how quickly the company can react in an emergency situation and that this does not mean compromising on style and comfort.
Situated on the Lizard peninsula in Cornwall, Porthkerris Divers is a professional, family-run dive centre which offers a whole range of scuba diving courses and the opportunity to view basking sharks and other marine wildlife. Shore diving and entry level diver training is available and the business also offers escorted shore and boat dives and RIB and hardboat charters.
