Maureen & Alan Westwood couldn't see how they would ever get the house of their dreams built on the land they own in the West Midlands until they discovered Rural Log Cabins
The Westwoods have owned their land for more than 30 years, running a successful smallholding business, but finding it ever more difficult to care for their animals without a home on the site. The land is designated Green Belt and planning permission has been difficult to obtain with councils nervous about allowing permanent dwellings of any description on the Green Belt land they protect. |

Life among the livestock
The Westwoods now have more than 500 free range poultry which provide the eggs they sell locally for their income. They also have a small flock of sheep, some ducks, horses and an assortment of cats and dogs – more like an ark than a timber home at times. Apart from the livestock they keep, their new timber home in the
country has allowed the Westwoods to connect with nature like never before. They now share their world with a rich variety of birdlife, enjoying the company of woodpeckers, chaffinches, jays and goldfinches to name but a few.
Sustainable Living
Maureen Westwood claims her new timber home is better than any previous conventional house she has lived in; “it looks great with the sun on it and in winter it’s warm and cosy with a simple wood burner to warm the whole house. We use mains electricity to run the appliances. A biogester accounts for our waste products and all the waste water is purified and returned to our duck pond. The beauty of these log cabins is that they allow you
to be as ‘green’ as you want to be; just buying a home made from sustainable timber, automatically makes you ‘greener’ than most.” Rural Log Cabins have achieved zero carbon status on their insulation package. |

Husband Alan was equally enthusiastic, but for different reasons; “Because all the internal floors and walls are timber they require very low maintenance and I am more than happy to hang up my paintbrush
after all these years.” Although the Westwoods had to be patient throughout the planning process, they
were amazed at the speed with which their new home took shape; “The build was incredible to witness, with large pieces delivered to site and the whole house being assembled like a large jigsaw puzzle. The whole process involved little fuss and the pieces appeared to fit together accurately first time, every time. The results were worth the wait for planning permission; we now have everything we ever wanted and couldn’t be happier with the quality or the design of our log cabin home.” |

Our aim is to provide high quality log cabins, each tailored to the individual needs of the buyer. Our cabins offer an easy way to enjoy the country lifestyle and allow you to connect with nature, - reduced utility bills and be self sufficient.
All of our cabins are made to our specifications from high grade sustainable pine. All the timber we use has been kiln dried before manufacturing begins, to deliver the quality and durability we are famous for.
Each log cabin is designed with the latest computer-aided design software which allows us to tailor designs specifically for each customer. We can manufacture our cabins as sectional buildings which are then assembled on site or in most cases we now actually build the cabin directly on site. This latest method has demonstrated benefits in both assembly time and quality.
